Tip # 1: Create an action plan to control profit-robbing weeds.
Weeds are still a grower’s No. -1 enemy, bringing losses of around $95 billion a year in lost global food production. Now is an excellent time for growers to identify their weed control challenges and modify their weed control program for cleaner fields in 2010.
“Growers looking back on their 2009 season may note an increasing trend of more difficult-to-control broadleaf weeds and realize they need to make changes to their control program,” said Dr. Dan Westberg, BASF Technical Marketing Manager.
Yield loss can start when weeds are as little as two inches, which can occur within three to five days after emergence. Weeds that emerge at the same time as the crop have been shown to cause more yield loss than weeds that emerge after the crop is established. New solutions, like the recently introduced Kixor® herbicide technology, are designed to control the toughest broadleaf weed control challenges facing growers today.
Kixor is a new kind of broadleaf action that provides exceptional control of broadleaf weeds, including weeds that are resistant to glyphosate, ALS inhibitors and triazines.
Kixor delivers a combination of rapid foliar burndown and residual soil activity that helps growers manage their fields more effectively, plant quicker, reduce weeds that can harbor insects and disease and offer better overall investment protection.
Kixor powers a family of herbicide products that includes: IntegrityTM herbicide, OpTillTM herbicide, SharpenTM herbicide and TreevixTM herbicide. These powerful new products have been tested and shown to be highly effective and safe for labeled crops.
